THE AMERICAN LEGION

CAMPBELL COUNTY POST 42

APRIL 2026 POST NEWSLETTER

COMMANDERS CORNER:

Good Day Legionnaires,

First, and foremost, I would like to thank everyone for such a successful Mid-Winter Fundraiser we had this year. I was so impressed with the amount of people that showed up for the event and all of the volunteers that assisted throughout the days leading up to the event and help during the event. From all the donations for the silent and live auction we had, it was amazing. Everything was truly a blessing for the American Legion and I cannot thank everyone enough. So, thank you again for everything. And a big congratulations to everyone that won money and/or auction items.

Elections will be held on May 14th. We will start taking nominations during the April 9th meeting. So please, start thinking about the officers you would like to nominate and come to the April 9th and May 14th meetings. Make your vote count.

We have had a very mild winter this year. However, this is Wyoming so, please don’t take the weather for granted. It can change at a moments notice. So be mindful of that and be prepared for anything.

One thing as a Legion that we should be keeping track of is, our volunteer hours.  Please, when you are volunteering in doing anything for the Legion, keep track of your hours and turn them into the Adjutant, John Wayne. This should be done on a monthly basis and turned in monthly. If you have hours and are not able to make it to the meeting, please drop them in the commander’s box, which is located downstairs in the entryway at Post Home.

We had our scholarship reviews. There were several competitive scholarship applications, and the board was able to determine who would be a good candidate for the scholarships. Those individuals that were chosen will be notified when their school’s have their scholarship night.

Thank you again for all you do. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Clarence Barry, Commander Post 42

SAL NEWS:

We want to thank everyone for supporting our NCAA scholarship boards. We think it’s a fun way to raise scholarship monies and give a little back to our friends and supporters.  I will announce the winners of the boards and our scholarships in next month’s newsletter.

We hope everyone enjoyed the smoked ribs we had in March and will be back for the SAL’s famous brisket dinner on April 24th.  We would like to thank Air Tech Heating and Air Conditioning for supporting our March happy hour and Climate Solutions for sponsoring our April happy hour.  Just like Lighting Lube, our February sponsor, they all offer a veteran’s discount.

Election time is here at the post, and we need fresh faces to come in and build a fire under us.  We have a good group with a lot of potential.  If you would like to come to us with fresh ideas and help the SAL, go even further, please get involved and come to a meeting.  We meet again April 12 at noon at the Post. We are just a few members short of 100%. Please remind anyone who hasn’t, to renew and keep recruiting.

If anyone has a major outdoor event, please do it. This usually brings a snow or rainstorm.

Respectfully submitted, Bill Kern, Adjutant, Squadron 42, Gillette, Wyoming, Cell: 307.299.4029
